Back to the Grind

Eight weeks ago I welcomed a pink, chubby, new darling into my life.  We were strangers that had only knocked on doors but had not yet come face to face.  Now as I’m ready to head back to work tomorrow this pink, chubbier darling stares back at me and my heart bursts.  We are no longer strangers. We have been constant companions, sharing late nights, meals, naps, hugs and tears in a way he hasn’t with anyone else.  Eight weeks feels like enough if I …

Hey HMH Moms and Dads (We know you are out there! Hustling and getting it done!) Happy Wednesday Y’All! Hope you all had an amazing holiday with your families and you were able to slow down a bit and relax before the spirit of the season kicks into high gear. You know what I am talking about! Gratitude With a Side of Mashed Potatoes

Thanksgiving and the month of November is my favorite time of year. A holiday without gifts, just family and food. It’s a time that most of us take a break and reflect on what we’re thankful for. While its a great practice that gets us feeling ready for the holidays and the start of a new year for many of us when the hustle picks up again we get sucked in and the warm fuzzy thankful feelings can drift. Last year our office put on …

The “No Power” Shit Show

At 6:00 this evening, just as I was about to begin my last task of the workday, the power went out. We live in the country where there are no street lights in sight. It was dark as hell and Daddy was just about to make ‘breakfast for dinner for our “starving” 3 year old and “starving” 4 year old. Meanwhile I was asked to wrap up work and feed the crying baby. I hate being interrupted and I hate how messy our house gets. There …

Today I Got My First Tattoo – A Tribute to My Oldest Son

When my kids ask me who my favorite child is, I answer that they are each my favorite, for different reasons (the answer is always the same, yet it’s a friendly banter amongst them to claim they are my favorite). When I talk about my oldest son, I say that he’s my favorite because he taught me how to be a mom. He loved this answer when he was younger, and would ask me over and over to list the ways he taught me how …

I Know Mommy, Motherhood 2.0

It was a big week for us.  Baby number two arrived mid-day on Monday and to say our lives changed is an understatement.  So much was different this time around and when I have the energy and the swelling in my ankles and my headache has subsided I will definitely be writing more about it. One big concern I had as the big arrival approached was how big brother was going to do.  J has been, since he was born, a gentle, sweet and caring …

Playdates!

Oh playdates, playdates and more playdates.  Through the years playdates have taken on many different versions at my house from working full time, working from home as a consultant and now working full time with some flexibility.  The caliber and expectations from my first to my fourth kid have changed drastically. When Maddi was younger we had playdates at museums, full on tea parties and always had an agenda with a healthy snack and craft options.  I’m serious, an agenda with full blown themes. Fast …

Letting Go of Mom Guilt

A few weeks ago we had school registration. My youngest asked if we could go to breakfast after his registration. “Great idea!” I replied. This year our school started something new; you could pre-fill out most of the paperwork and drop it off ahead of time. I told my son that if I did this, and we got to school right when registration opened, we could zip through the lines and have time for a quick breakfast before I had to get to a meeting …

Back to School

There is no hustle like the back to school hustle!  I take full advantage of summer break and extend the fun to the very last possible moment.  Then POW … back to reality (back to life, back to Rita…. ) gearing up for the new school year with finishing up summer homework packets, shopping for supplies, taking inventory of uniforms, backpacks and shoes realizing that nothing fits.  It all gets done it’s just not as fun as a day on the lake! Boo hoo. Summer …

55,000 Snapchats! Oh, you read that right!

Hey Momma’s! How was the summer? What were your kiddie-Os up to? I cannot believe we are starting another school year. My oldest is going to be a sophomore. How did that happen??? My middle is going to be in 8th grade and my baby is going into 5th! Time is flying and I am soaking up as much of them as I can. Some days are easier than others! And I have to admit that the end of the last school year gave me …
