I want to create a National Holiday! We have many days set aside for celebrating events in our lives and people in our lives, but I would like to explore one more day to celebrate!
I want to set a day aside each year to reach out to that one person who really made a difference in your life. Maybe it is a mentor at work, a professor, one of your parents. For me, it was a nurse. But not a nurse that was taking care of me. It was a nurse that was taking care of my son. My youngest was born with a very rare form of Heart Disease. When he was 4 days old he had the first of 4 surgeries. Three of them were open heart surgeries.
When I was 21 weeks pregnant I found out Connor had heart disease and we entered a new world. There was new terminology, doctors appointments, level 4 echo cardiograms and many, many more things that changed from that day forward. And I also met my little baby boys cardiology nurse. The doctors were amazing and I owe them everything I have for helping my little boy. But I have to also recognize this beautiful woman. She came along side me. She answered my millions of questions, she reassured me, she calmed me and she honestly saved me!
It has been almost 9 years since Connor’s last open heart surgery. We have regular checkups and we still see her twice a year. But I needed to do something more. I needed to show her appreciation. And how can you really say thank you to someone who saved you?
Well, I started with flowers. Last week I sent her flowers. And this is what my card said.
Sending you these flowers to show my appreciation for all you do. The doctors saved Connor’s life, but you saved mine. Forever grateful.
So, who was your person? Let’s make a national holiday. National “You Saved Me” Day! On May 8th (Connor’s Birthday) let’s all send that special someone a message, a small token of our appreciation and let them know they saved you!
