My obsession with MOD Pizza began in December, as I ventured out in the cold to finalize the last of my holiday shopping. While driving past outlots near a crowded shopping center I saw a new sign next to Potbelly that said MOD Pizza Superfast. Intrigued, I did a quick Google search to see what this place was all about. My take was that it was similar to Subway or Qdoba where you pick your own toppings, but in this case it was for pizza. Sounded good to me! After a quick scroll, I decided MOD Pizza would be my reward for suffering through shopping.
One visit and I was hooked. I wanted to tell everyone about this place. It’s been about 4 months since my first visit and I’ve stopped in a handful of times. Nine months pregnant, my cravings are at an all-time high and the only thing I can think of to write about this week (besides how uncomfortable I am) is MOD Pizza. Can you really love pizza that much? I think so. In one attempt I came up with a list of 21 reasons why I am obsessed with this pizza joint. Check it out.
If you are a parent-on-the-go as often as I am, pay close attention to the items below marked with asterisks (***). They represent extra special reasons why MOD Pizza is the perfect solution for hustling Moms or Dads.
1. Fast ***
Like the outdoor sign says, they are superfast. MOD Pizza is a counter-service restaurant and your salad is made before your eyes and your pizza is hot and ready before you finish eating your salad.
2. Build-your-own pizza ***
Have picky eaters in your family? Have a large family that can never agree on what ingredients to get on your pizza? You can customize a pizza your way and even do half and half, a third, or a quarter done ‘your way’.
3. Lemonade
If your mouth waters at the sound of a perfectly tangy, sour lemonade you’ll have a hard time deciding between their traditional vintage lemonade and their blackberry lemonade.
4. 1 price, unlimited toppings ***
MOD’s claim to fame is my favorite reason for this heavenly establishment. UNLIMITED toppings, 1 price. LITERALLY. UNLIMITED! You get everything you want and don’t have to worry about paying per topping!
5. Over 30 tasty toppings ***
The ingredients at MOD are high-quality. Their corporate website describes them as artisanal and I don’t doubt it. The food is delicious and you can tell the ingredients are fresh.
6. Lemon wedge
On one of my first visits, the staff person asked me if I wanted a lemon wedge on my pizza. Flabbergasted I asked “Really?” and then I was sold. I like lime on my tacos, so what the hell. Lemon on my pizza. (It’s delicious!)
7. Allergy friendly ***
Have an allergy or food sensitivity in the family? MOD offers gluten free crust, dairy free cheese and other options for people with varying diets.
8. Friendly staff
On each visit, I’ve encountered friendly, patient and welcoming staff members. They’re doing something right when they hire team members.
9. Affordable ***
Are you a budget conscious person? (I am!) If you love going out to eat but feel guilty afterwards, you won’t here. MOD pizzas are priced just below $8 and their pizzas are large enough to feed me for two meals. Woot!
10. 4 pizza sauces to choose from
If you’re into non-traditional pizzas, you can go beyond the traditional marinara red sauce pizza with options that include pesto, alfredo or bbq sauce.
11. 6 cheeses to choose from
Cheese lover like me? Pick all six. I don’t feel bad and love the melted mozzarella, asiago, and parmesan cheeses. I also get a side of feta to sprinkle on top. Don’t try to shame me. I love this place and a lot of it has to do with the feta, pineapple, roasted corn combo.
12. Sneak in the veggies ***
There are tons of vegetables to choose from for your pizza toppings. I’ve been able to sprinkle in red peppers, broccoli and roasted corn and my kids aren’t any wiser. In fact, my 4 year old requests broccoli on his pizza now!
13. Online ordering ***
Convenient, convenient, convenient. Order from your phone, run some errands, pick it up without waiting in line.
14. Chef inspired menu
If you’re not into the fully customized pizza idea and would like to start from a list of options, there are a dozen or so pizzas that you can pick from and customize to your liking, with seasonal options featured.
15. That dough though ***
Not too thick, not too thin. MOD’s organic dough is just right. According to Wikipedia, “MOD pizzas are made with fresh pressed dough by King Arthur Flour, the oldest flour company in the United States.”
16. Dranky dranks
Besides the lemonade and traditional soft drinks, customers can choose from milkshakes, draft beer, or wine.
17. Drizzle topper sauces
MOD offers a selection of sauces to drizzle on top of your pizza. While this is not something I opt into, these flavor options can easily turn your pizza into something out of this world. For instance: BBQ Swirl, Pesto Drizzle, Ranch Drizzle, Sriracha, etc.
18. Salads, sides and desserts
Besides the pizzas I cannot stop raving about, MOD offers three sizes of salads (also fully customizable), sides, and a handful of desserts to choose from.
19. Industrial chic decor
I’m no interior designer, so I have a limited vocabulary when it comes to describing the atmosphere but I love the inside of MOD pizza. There are tons of pictures on the walls and the lighting, and tables make me feel good.
20. Filling but not heavy ***
Busy day on the run with your family? No one wants to eat a delicious pizza and then fall asleep. With all the ingredient choices, you’re able to walk away with a full feeling without falling into a food coma.
21. Spreading Modness ***
I love to support businesses who care about the things I care about. At MOD, they believe in “Spreading Modness”, which they self describe as putting people before pizza. This concept is based on making a social impact in the lives of their employees and communities served.
My favorite pizza…marinara, mozzarella, pepperoni, green pepper, red pepper, onion, pineapple, roasted corn, asiago, parmesan, lemon wedge, and feta.
